It is of paramount importance that a surveyor assigned to a particular task is able to carry it through and produce the results as expected by our Principals. Needless to say, our surveyors fully comprehend the distinction between particular average and general average including the York-Antwerp Rules, 1974 that governs the adjustment. As the IUMI proposals for reform of the York-Antwerp Rules 1994 is still an on-going debate, it would be interesting to monitor its development and effects to the maritime industry in time to come.
